Essence Breaking Dawn Blush

Sun 18. Nov 2:42 pm

Here are swatches and pics of the new breaking dawn part two blush from Essence. You should be able to find this at your local Ulta.

I find it to be not very blendable but the color isn't too bright so the color is actually nice and wearable.

On the left blended out and on the right layered up :)

Cleaning My Makeup Collection

Sun 18. November 1:57 pm

I'm finally going to start blogging again! I decided to forget about trying to just make this a nail blog. This is going to by my life-blog with a focus on beauty, nails and fashion from now on.

To start it off I took some pictures last weekend when I was cleaning up around my desk and makeup collection. I also put away the stuff I only reach for in summer and traded for my more fall and winter
favorites.

Here's the before:

And here are some after pics:

My everyday eye and face products are stored in this little thingy mabobber from Salvation Army. In front are One By One waterproof mascara from Maybelline and Heather Silk blush from Wet N Wild to remind me to buy replacements.
The brushes I need to clean and my Sonia Kashuk brush cleanser are ready to go to the bathroom for a bath :)
 My Winter/Fall face products :)
 My fall eye products
More eye products are stored in this glass bowl because they're too little to store in the other wooden thingy.
In a vintage glass jam jar I have all my mascaras, eyeliners, and eye primers.

I also have a little jewelry box with 4 drawers for lip gloss and a caboodle with makeup I early used stored in it until I have recitals, shows, or competitions because I use that for..those. Anyways, I'll have a lip products collection and a what's in my performance makeup case another time :)

Nail Polish HAUL!

I got a $10 off $20 purchase from Sally Beauty Supply for my birthday so I went a little nuts with nail polish!
I didn't even like a few of the ones I got once I was out of the store, one the color was just wrong for a tutorial I bought it for and the other, I looked up swatches and it goes on so patchy and thin I know I'll never wear it.
The ones I'm keeping are:

Sally Girl Pea-Body $0.94

Sally Girl IQ $0.94
Sally Girl Simple $0.94

China Glaze Unpredictable $5.99 (Fall 2012 Bohemian Collection)

China Glaze Top Coat $5.99 (Review coming soon, I'm ON THE HUNT for a non chipping and non shrinking shiny top coat- ISTHATTOOMUCHTOASK?!)

Halloween Nail Tutorials: Cleopatra

This year I'm doing as many Halloween-themed nail tutorials as I can, starting with these Cleopatra inspired nails.

Owl Nailart NOTD

Owl Nail Of The Day

This design isn't very easy but if you get a friend to do it on your dominant hand or just do accent nail with an owl then it'll be a lot easier.

Materials:
  • an owl-colored nail polish: Revlon Streetwear Polish in Jelly
  • white acrylic paint
  • orange polish: OPI mini from a halloween kit
  • yellow polish: Sinful Colors in Pullover
  • a color that compliments your owl color (you could do pink and blue or black and grey, whatever you want!): Revlon in Copper Penny
  • Toothpick
  • Nail dotting tools or something similar in a few sizes

Steps:
  • Base coat (optional): I use Essie Trillionails
  • Paint your nails the base color
  • Paint a big semi circle tummy for your owl
  • With a little toothpick paint some little feather lines
  • Use your toothpick again and make little triangles one for the beak, and two for the feet
  • Then use all your different size dotters to make the eyes

Here's the result!

Splatter Paint NOTD + Video Tutorial!

I've finally made another video tutorial, I hope you like it! Here are a few pics of my adventures in nail-splatter painting! Make sure you've got a nice big area covered for this design!

Materials:

  • Base polish (I used Essence Nail Color in "You Belong To Me*)
  • Acrylic Paints (I used Craftsmart and Apple brands from Michaels Craft Store)
  • Top Coat (I used a crap one from Nina Pro, I don't recommend it- chips in a day)
  • I also used a base coat it's totally optional but in case you're wondering it's Sally Hansen maximum growth daily nail treatment.
  • Nail art brush (or any brush really!)
  • Water, this should be in a container you don't care about because it will get the acrylic paint all over it, it's also best if it's rather shallow and close to your working surface that way the paint has less space to travel around and get all over stuff.

The materials I used, my work surface was the backside of an oversized calendar from last year.

My final result...

Just a quick picture of the bottle...I meant to include the swatch picture, oh well.

And if you'd like to see a video tutorial of how to achieve this design in the comfort of your own home (or someone else's if you're not too messy) here's it is! Take a moment to subscribe to my channel and comment if you like. I don't post videos often, but I find them very helpful to watch so I hope you do too!

*Quickie: I LOVE these essence polishes they're great for nail polish hoarders because they're cheap, cool/unique colors, and they're small so 1) they fit in your collection and 2) you don't feel guilty about wasting product because there's not a lot. And OF COURSE- they are amazing quality! Especially the brush, better than any comparably priced nail polish out there. The formula is right up there with my favorites like Revlon and OPI.

Playful Polkadots Nail Art

Playful Polka-dots
A fun fresh polka-dotted design for any occasion!

  1. Apply a base-coat to your nails, I use Sally Hansen Maximum Growth
  2. Paint your nails your desired background color, I used Sinful Colors in Pullover (golden yellow creme)
  3. (optional) *after waiting more than 4 hours* Tape off your nail so that you can only make polka-dots along a set area, this will give you cut off polka-dots as seen on second finger from the left.
  4. Get a large dotting tool or the fat side of a wooden skewer and make a few big dots. I recommend doing this in one or two colors. I used Sinful Colors Folly (hot pink creme) and Sinful Colors Aquamarine (aqua creme).
  5. Take a small dotting tool, a pin, or the other side of the wooden skewer to paint little dots around the big ones. I recommend using two or three colors for this step. I used the same pink and blue as before.
  6. (optional) Find another object to make dots with (bobby pin, pencil tip) and add some medium sized dots for more dimension.

Remember you can change the color combination for any season/occasion!
Enjoy (:
